JOHANN JACOB WEISS: UN TOMBEAU?
The
Allemande in f-moll found in the Munich Lute Manuscript certainly
has some features that would qualify it be a TOMBEAU even without
an explicit designation as such. There are, however, some doubts
as to it's authorship or ascription, as it has some qualities
of character untypical of S.L.Weiss, but belonging to the preceeding
epoch of his father Johann Jakob Weiss, not to mention a few
incongrueties that would be unlikely for a composer of Weiss'
statue and possible missing bars or sections. Here you may judge
this piece on it's own merits, or against a few proposed solutions
by J.J.Sautscheck.
