PROGRAM NOTES
Although "Fingertips of Apprehension" was not conceived
as a programmatic work, upon completion of the score I realized
that it reflects, albeit very indirectly, my experience of living
in New York. The wide variety of musical materials used in the
piece, its alternation (and often coexistence) of tonality and
atonality, of explosive harsh sounds and lyrical moving ones,
all contribute to recall the pulsating and exciting magma of
New York. At the same time, I hope this music will evoke in the
listener the different and often intense emotions that this unique
city elicits. The title, which seemed very appropriate for the
piece (and, in a way, for New York as well), comes from a poem
by Robert Lowell.
