PROGRAM NOTES

The "Partita for one Percussionist" was composed with the precise intention of emphasizing the rhythmic, not only timbral, dimension which is natural to percussion instruments, and which has occasionally been overlooked in some of the works of these past years. The piece consists of five short movements that bear as title an adjective which defines their character, tempo, instrumental and timbral peculiarities. The five movements are: Hysterical, Obstinate, Tranquil, Desolate, Hysterical. The title is an ideal homage to J.S. Bach and his Partitas for unaccompanied Violin, the spirit of which surrounded me during the composition of this work.

PROGRAMMA DI SALA

La Partita per un Percussionista nasce nell'intento di recuperare quella solida dimensione ritmica, e non soltanto timbrica, che spesso nella musica d'oggi si tende a mettere in secondo piano, e che e' invece propria degli strumenti a percussione. Il pezzo si articola in cinque brevi movimenti; ognuno di questi ha per titolo un aggettivo che ne definisce il carattere, il tempo e le scelte timbrico-strumentali. I cinque movimenti sono nell'ordine: isterico, pervicace, tranquillo, desolato, isterico. Il titolo, idealmente, rimanda a J. S. Bach e alle sue Partite per Violino solo, lo spirito delle quali mi aleggiava intorno durante la composizione di questo lavoro.
